The Fourth International Conference on Sustainable Systems Development (ICSSD 2026) Kicks Off in Duhok

In the presence of the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the representative of the Governor of Duhok, the President of the University of Zakho, the representative of the President of Erbil Polytechnic University, as well as government and political officials, and a large number of academics and researchers, the Fourth International Conference on Sustainable Systems Development (ICSSD 2026)officially commenced on Wednesday, 22 July 2026 at the Parwar Hotel.
The conference is organized by Duhok Polytechnic University in collaboration with the Malaysian Academic and Research Services Center (ACARES), with the participation of 11 universities and academic and research institutions, and under the direct patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Ari Adel, President of Duhok Polytechnic University, welcomed the distinguished guests and emphasized the importance of the university’s continuous commitment to innovation and adaptation to modern technologies. She further explained that the conference primarily aims to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the fields of clean water, environmental health, clean energy, industry, innovation, infrastructure, and adaptation to climate change.
Regarding the scientific participation, Prof. Dr. Ari stated that, in addition to contributions from researchers across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, numerous research papers were submitted by universities from Türkiye, Malaysia, India, Saudi Arabia, Russia, the United Kingdom, Jordan, and Oman. Following a rigorous scientific review process, 50 papers were accepted for presentation during the two-day conference and will subsequently be published in internationally recognized journals indexed in the Scopus database.
At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, appreciation was extended to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Malaysian ACARES Center, the scientific and organizing committees, and all supporting parties for their contributions to the successful organization of this significant academic event. The first day’s scientific sessions then commenced with the presentation and discussion of the accepted research papers.
