The First Day of the First International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Engineering and Applied Sciences Was Held

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Region, and in the presence of the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a number of university presidents, vice presidents, college deans, researchers, and teachers from educational institutions in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, today, Wednesday, 17/6/2026, the first day of the First International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Engineering and Applied Sciences(ICAIEAS2026) was held at the University of Zakho.
This conference has been organized jointly by the five universities: Duhok Polytechnic University, University of Zakho, Şırnak University, Soran University,and Akre University for Applied Sciences, and will continue for two days, from 17 to 18 June 2026.
The conference began with a tribute to the souls of the martyrs. Afterwards, the speech of the partner universities was delivered by Prof. Dr. Dyar Abdulkarim, President of the University of Zakho, who said: “The aim of these five partner universities is to benefit from the latest scientific achievements. Artificial intelligence is not only a technological and scientific subject, but also a civilizational phenomenon that can change the course of humanity for decades.” He also thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and all parties that contributed to making the conference possible.
On the other hand, the speech of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Kurdistan Region was delivered by Prof. Dr. Amir Abdulrahman Chali, Assistant Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, who thanked the partner universities and emphasized the importance of such conferences as a positive step toward knowledge.
Afterwards, a documentary video about the universities organizing the conference was presented, followed by a brief presentation about the conference by Prof. Dr. Jasim Mohammed Abdo.
Following the opening ceremony, the conference keynote speakers presented their topics. They included: Prof. Dr. Masoud, Lect. Hassan, Prof. Dr. Tariq, Prof. Rashid, Dr. Arsalan, R. Mirza, Prof. Dr. Mohammed, M. Ani (online), Prof. Dr. Mevan, and B. M. Abdulrazaq.
At the end of the ceremonies, certificates of appreciation and recognition were distributed. After the lunch break, technical sessions were presented in different halls.
It is expected that tomorrow, Thursday, 18 June 2026, the second and final day will begin with technical sessions at 10:00 a.m. The closing ceremonies will be conducted with the presentation of the conference recommendations at 12:00 noon by Prof. Dr. Farsat Hito Abdulrahman.
