About Us

Technical Institute of Duhok is the oldest higher educational center in Duhok city, established in 1988. This institute has played an important role in the development of the city and has helped enhance the quality of life there. It is a branch of the Duhok Poly-Technic University, connected to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region.

After the uprising of 1991, the Iraqi government withdrew its governmental offices from Kurdistan. However, the institute was still able to provide its students with a quality education. The institute aimed to give confidence and a greater role to Kurdish teachers, seeing them as the main instructors. Additionally, the role of Ba’arey Kurdistan, especially the visit of the PDK leader, President Masquod Barzani, provided strong support for the institute to continue its educational mission.

After the establishment of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the institute continued its work, especially during the third, fourth, and fifth cabinets. These cabinets encouraged and supported the institute by establishing new buildings, opening new departments, purchasing new equipment, and providing financial support.

The institute has graduated more than 3,264 students since its inception, awarding them diploma degrees in various fields including mechanics, building and construction, surveying, IT, health-related departments, social-health, dental hygiene, pharmacy, and midwifery. These degrees were earned through a two-year theoretical and practical teaching system. The institute also provides internships during the summer session.

Duhok Institute always focuses on the quality of education and the development of its teaching staff. Therefore, many teachers have the opportunity to complete master's and Ph.D. degrees both inside and outside the region.

In response to the requirements of Dohuk city and the availability of competent staff, the Institute opened an IT department and will present the first batch of graduates from this section in the summer of 2014. Additionally, two departments, Preventive Dental and Surveying, were closed and replaced by departments in road construction and dental industry in 2012-2013.

With the increasing number of students, the institute's management initiated the expansion of buildings to accommodate the growing student body. A three-floor building, including a modern library and a club for students and staff, was constructed. Moreover, many buildings and workshops have been renovated.

In terms of purchasing laboratory equipment, many computers have been bought for computer labs, as well as a variety of devices for the labs in the road construction and building and construction departments.

Our Vision

The Technical Institute of Duhok derives its vision from the social, political, and economic reality of the Badinan region, centred around Duhok province. Duhok is considered an emerging province in terms of industry and technology. The region felt the need to establish a high educational institution as a fundamental cornerstone for its citizens. The institute aims to equip its graduates with skills in the institute's specialities, earning the confidence of the community in its graduates.

Our Goal

The goal of establishing this scientific institution, the first higher education institution in the region, is to create a competent workforce in advanced engineering, medical, and technological fields. This workforce is trained according to globally recognized modern methodologies, leveraging scientific advancements, the telecommunications revolution, and globalization to contribute to the economic and administrative development of the region. Additionally, the aim is to elevate structures above this solid foundational block by establishing specialized colleges and institutes in technologies and sciences, which form the basis for the progress and prosperity of nations.
