Empowering Women with Special Needs in The Field of Peace and Security


Within the framework of empowering women with special needs in the fields of peace and security, and in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to gender equality and social inclusion, Duhok Polytechnic University / Technical College of Administration, in coordination with The Lotus Flower Organization, organized a special event on Tuesday, 26 January 2026, dedicated to supporting and serving persons with special needs.

The event was held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ari Adil, President of Duhok Polytechnic University, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Nawzad Rajab Zubair, Dean of the Technical College of Administration, with the attendance of Prof. Dr. Muayad Barakat, vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, in addition to several political, governmental, military, and community figures, as well as faculty members, students, and a number of beneficiaries with special needs. The event aimed to promote social support and inclusion for this group within society.

The activities commenced with a welcoming speech delivered by the Dean of the College, followed by a panel discussion entitled:

Everyone Ability Matters: Building Positive Perspectives in Society”,

moderated by a woman with special needs, with the participation of Dr. Taghreed Sami, Dr. Emad Kazem, and Mr. Khalid Othman.

The panel highlighted the role of women—particularly women with special needs—in society, emphasizing the importance of empowerment, inclusion, and active participation. Several certificates of appreciation and awards were presented to contributors and supporters of the initiative, including the Dean of the College.

At the conclusion of the event, an exhibition of handmade products created by talented women with special needs was organized, showcasing their creativity, skills, and economic potential.

Through such initiatives and partnerships, Duhok Polytechnic University reaffirms its strong commitment to serving all segments of society, with particular attention to persons with special needs, and to promoting social justice and inclusive sustainable development.
