Commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Towards Women and Families through a Panel Session
The Directorate for Combating Violence Against Women and Families in Zakho, in cooperation with the colleges and institutes of Zakho Technical, organized a panel session on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Towards Women and Families under the title "Combating Domestic Violence."
The event was held on November 25, 2025, in the presence of Ass. Prof. Dr. Dalshir Ahmed Mohammed, Dean of the College and Technical Institute of Zakho, along with several public and private figures, as well as professors, staff members, and students from the college and institute.
The panel included presentations by:
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Zahid Sami Mohammed - Clinical Psychology and Development of Psychological Understanding.
- Mr. Khalid Ahmed Saleh - Imam and Khateeb at Al-Fattah Mosque in Zakho.
- Mr. Mohammed Akid Suleiman - Head of the Media and Relations Department at the Directorate for Combating Violence Against Women and Families in Zakho.
- Mr. Jasim Mohammed - Panel Coordinator.
In this panel discussion, several topics related to law, violence, and the media were addressed by experts and discussed among the attendees. It was emphasized that the causes and persistence of violence against women and families must not be overlooked. The session explored the differences between the current state of domestic violence against families and children and that of the past ten years. The protection of women's and family rights from religious, psychological, and legal perspectives was also discussed. Mechanisms for reducing domestic violence were examined, along with the roles of religion, psychology, and institutions responsible for combating violence. The role of women in societal and scientific progress was also discussed.
In the second part of the session, the opinions of participating faculty, staff, and students from the college and institute were presented, and their comments and observations were received.
The session concluded with an open dialogue and discussion among the participants—faculty, staff, and students—to benefit from the presented expertise and exchange viewpoints.
