Physiotherapy
About the Department
The Physiotherapy Department was originally established in 2000 and functioned as a two-year diploma program until 2005, after which it was suspended for 17 years. In the academic year 2022–2023, the department was reopened through a collaborative initiative between Duhok Polytechnic University, the University of Sassari, and Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Italy.
The program offers a comprehensive two-year curriculum combining theoretical knowledge and extensive practical training in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Upon successful completion, graduates are awarded a Diploma in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and earn the professional title of Assistant Physiotherapist.
The department aims to develop students’ logical and clinical reasoning skills to assess and address patients’ physical complaints effectively. Training emphasizes physical therapy examination, evaluation, and treatment of individuals with physical and physiological conditions, using evidence-based exercises and movement techniques to enhance patients' overall health and quality of life.
Vision
The vision of the Physiotherapy Department is to address the shortage of trained assistant physiotherapists in governmental and private healthcare sectors in Duhok. The department strives to build a foundation of academic and clinical excellence, contributing to the advancement of healthcare services and the development of Duhok Technical Institute as a regional leader in physiotherapy education.
Mission
The mission of the Physiotherapy Department is to prepare ethically grounded and socially responsible graduates who possess both strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills in physiotherapy. The department aims to produce competitive professionals capable of contributing to community well-being and addressing public health challenges through the application of physiotherapy science and technology.
