Overview of the Department

The Information Technology Department was originally established in the academic year 2004–2005 under the name Computer Systems to keep pace with advancements in the field of computer science. In 2012, the department was renamed Information Technology to reflect the broader scope of the discipline. Initially supervised by the Erbil Foundation of Technical Education, the department officially became part of Duhok Polytechnic University in 2013.

Since 2006, the department has graduated a significant number of academically qualified students holding a Diploma in Information Technology. This success is credited to the leadership of successive deans, whose efforts in modernizing and advancing the department’s infrastructure, curriculum, and teaching methodologies are deeply appreciated.

To cultivate proficient graduates capable of meeting modern professional demands across various domains of information technology. The department seeks to enhance students’ analytical and technical skills, particularly in application programming, and to prepare them to thrive in diverse IT sectors.

The mission of the Information Technology Department is to strengthen students’ practical skills through hands-on training in laboratories, focusing on real-world system requirements. The department envisions a future where its graduates support and advance both public and private sectors by providing highly qualified professionals in IT.
