The Workshop “Understanding the Oil and Gas Industry” Concluded
As a scientific initiative aimed at raising students’ competencies and preparing them for the labor market, the CDC Center at the Technical College and Institute of Zakho, in coordination with the international organization (SPE), concluded an advanced workshop entitled “Understanding the Oil and Gas Industry.”
This scientific activity continued for five days (from 25 to 29 January 2026). Through a precise academic approach, it highlighted the different stages of the oil industry, including:
Upstream Stage: The importance of geology and modern drilling techniques.
Midstream & Downstream Stages: Processes of transporting and refining crude oil and operating station equipment.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Explanation of international standards for environmental protection and workers’ safety.
The workshop was delivered by experienced specialists from the College, with the participation of 73 students (49 male and 24 female) from the Departments of Petroleum Geology and Petroleum. This participation rate reflects students’ strong interest in the energy sector.
For the purpose of certificate distribution, a formal ceremony was held on 3 February 2026 in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ammar Issam Idris, Assistant Dean of the College, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Qais Mustafa Abdulqader, Coordinator of the CDC Center. Emphasis was placed on the continuity of such courses to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the provision of quality education and the preparation of qualified cadres to serve the national economy. Certificates of participation issued by (SPE) were distributed to the participating students.
