Students of Duhok Polytechnic University Achieve First Place in the Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition


Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ari Adel, President ofDuhok Polytechnic University, and under the patronage of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mizgin Sisan Ahmed, Dean of the Technical College of Engineering in Duhok, and in the presence of Asst. Prof. Dr. Yaman Sami Sharif, Vice President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, the Technical College of Engineering – Department of Highway and Bridge Engineering , in coordination with ACI – DPU Student Chapter, organized an exhibition and testing session for students’ projects. This event, which represents the first of its kind in the current academic year, was held with the participation of students from seven universities:

(Duhok Polytechnic University, Erbil Polytechnic University, University of Duhok, University of Zakho,Tishk International University, Raparin University, and University of Soran), as part of the Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition.

During the event, and under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mand Kamal, a faculty member at Duhok Polytechnic University, and in cooperation with the evaluation committee, the students’ projects were presented and assessed at two levels.

At the first level, projects that had been prepared in accordance with the instructions and criteria of the evaluation committee were selected and subjected to a load-bearing test to determine their ability to withstand the maximum possible weight without failure or collapse. The results showed that students of Duhok Polytechnic University – Group (8) secured first place, followed by Raparin University – Group (2) in second place, while University of Soran – Group BLIZARD achieved third place.

At the second level, the competition was conducted among projects that did not fully comply with the evaluation committee’s instructions and criteria. The results indicated that students of Duhok Polytechnic University – Group (6) achieved first place, followed by Raparin University – Group (1) in second place, and Tishk International University – Group LOWE in third place.

At the end of the event, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the sponsoring bodies, members of the evaluation committee, and the winning teams, in recognition of their efforts and active contribution to the success of this scientific competition.
