The study proposes the Environment–Accident Index (EAI), a simple tool to quickly assess and rank environmental risks from chemical accidents. It combines three main factors: acute aquatic toxicity (Tox), amount of chemical released or stored (Am), and spreading properties of the chemical and environment (Sp). The model helps authorities and industry classify accident severity and support faster risk assessment and decision-making in chemical safety management.
