History of The Previous Versions of The ICOASE Conferences

The 1st ICOASE (ICOASE 2018) was the starting point to establish a series of conferences organized by the University of Zakho and Duhok Polytechnic University, sponsored by the IEEE Iraq Section, adhering to international conference organization standards. The conference was held from October 9th–11th, 2018. The first day took place at the Conference Hall in Duhok City, and the second and third days were held at the University of Zakho, Faculty of Science halls, Zakho City. The conference involved national and international scientists and researchers within the ICOASE community. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi Salih delivered a keynote speech on the "Impact of Higher Education Institutions on Stability, Social Peace, and Security in the Kurdistan Region – Iraq." The conference’s publication quality was ensured through the EDAS submission system and blind review, monitored by the IEEE section. 94 papers were presented, and all were published in IEEE Xplore, accessible here.

The 2nd International Conference on Advanced Science and Engineering 2019 (ICOASE2019), technically sponsored by IEEE and organized by the University of Zakho and Duhok Polytechnic University, was held from April 2nd–4th, 2019. The first day was hosted at the University of Zakho, Faculty of Science Hall, while the second and third days were held at Duhok Polytechnic University halls. The conference featured four keynote speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Parosh A. Abdulla (The Quest for the Correctness of Computer Systems: The Program Verification Approach)
  • Prof. Dr. Gustavo R. Alves (Contribution of Remote Labs to Engineering Education)
  • Dr. Riyadh Qashi (Security in the Internet of Things)
  • Prof. Dr. Eng. Sattar B. Sadkhan (Cognition and the Future of Information Security)

63 papers were presented, with 52 papers published in IEEE Xplore, accessible here. Additionally, 12 papers that were outside the scope of IEEE were published in a Springer-edited book titled Recent Researches in Earth and Environmental Sciences, accessible here.

Due to COVID-19, the 3rd ICOASE (ICOASE 2020) was held virtually on December 23rd–24th, 2020. This edition was technically sponsored by IEEE, with the IEEE Iraq Section's involvement. The conference hosted two keynote speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Bayan Mahdi Sabbar (Applications of Digital Signal Processing in all Sciences)
  • Prof. Dr. Eng. Abdulkadir Şengür (Exploring Deep Learning Features for Automatic Classification of Human Emotion Using EEG Rhythms)

95 papers were submitted, with 44 accepted. Of these, 38 papers were published in IEEE Xplore, accessible here, while the remaining six papers were published in the Science Journal of the University of Zakho.

The 4th ICOASE (ICOASE2022) was held on September 21st–22nd, 2022, with joint organization by the University of Zakho, Duhok Polytechnic University, and Northern Technical University. The first day took place at the University of Zakho’s Faculty of Science, and the second day was held at the Technical College of Administration halls at Duhok Polytechnic University. 130 papers were submitted, and 71 papers were accepted after double-blind peer review.

  • Dr. Obed Majeed Ali (Engineering Applications of Bioenergy Systems: Developments and Challenges)
